The company ALFAKEM Ltd. was established in 1981 in Athens and the purpose of its activities is importing, packaging and distributing composite materials, chemical raw materials and all necessary equipmet/tooling for the industry of composites manufacturing.

ALFAKEM LTD maintains longlasting cooperations with more than 25 of the biggest international chemical/ composite suppliers highly estimated for their superior quality and state-of-the-art production sites, who are operating under high quality standards and for whom “after-sales support” is one of their core principal

The majority of products that ALFAKEM LTD, introduces and distributes market are certified by ISO, DVN, Lloyd’s, etc.

The expansion of our product portfolio and services continues to be a daily driving force whilst trying to contribute to the further spreading of composites in the Greek market as we believe in the limitless possibilities of development of this industry. Except of the industrial sector, Composite material (methods-ideas) can be well integrated in the educational world (schools) and can also be applicable in leisure activities, which will open new perspectives for the next generations to get involved with them

MARITIME

INDUSTRIAL SECTORS

The construction of composite boats has been for decades the main industrial sector where composite materials are being used starting from the construction of the composite mold until the completion of the production, the materials which are used are numerous and all of which act as a combination. The quality and quantity of the materials used depend on the size of the vessel and the mechanical properties requirements.

Application objects

  • Sailboats
  • Cruisers boats
  • Catamaran
  • Yacht
  • Large yachts
  • Inflatable boats
  • Racing boats
  • Boats etc.

All these marine structures need a variety of materials to be constructed and suitable technical support for the proper use and the combination of these materials in order to result in a seaworthy and high quality vessel. New composite materials ensure that vessels become lighter and more durable.

The transport industry has benefited greatly from the adoption of modern composite materials in constructions, as they have largely replaced the use of metal and as a result modern means of transport have become lighter and faster but also more eco-friendly since there has been a significant decrease in the fuel consumption. Simultaneously, it is now much easier to repair broken/defective parts using composites. Some of the applications are:

Application objects

  • Vehicles (doors, seats, spoilers, etc.)
  • Buses (ceilings, bumpers, floors etc)
  • Ambulance (internal structures, partitions)
  • Trains
  • F1/ Racing cars
  • Motorsport
  • Trucks
  • Planes
  • Helicopters
  • Drones

The materials used for all these structures are numerous and vary according to the mechanical requirements of the production while the production method to be followed plays a very important role in choosing the appropriate materials.

Composite materials provide great advantages in infrastructure applications compared to traditional materials such as steel, concrete and wood and offer solutions to manufacturers who now use them more and more in construction. Since the costs of urban infrastructure constructions are very high, the viability of each project needs to be as assured as possible. Structures of composite materials do not rust, corrode, or weaken, as it happens with traditional materials, thereby providing extended life and effective cost savings and flexibility in the design possibilities.

Application objects

  • Pipes
  • Lighting Columns
  • Bridges
  • Tanks
  • Shelters
  • Piles
  • Columns
  • Artificial Walls
  • Supporting Structures etc.

The materials used for all these structures are numerous and depending on the engineering requirements, strength and compatibility with traditional building materials, the contractors selected the appropriate materials each time. For every construction it is extremely important to analyze the geophysical resultants of the area where the construction will be placed to choose appropriate materials

Composite materials are being used in building structures and provide significant advantages over traditional building materials. The composite materials provide low weight, high mechanical strength, durability and flexibility in design, enabling architects and engineers to create new and unique structures which are often easier to produce and less expensive or do not require expensive manufacturing equipment while reducing the total production cost and subsequent maintenance costs.
Inside modern buildings there are several sub-sections which may be made of composite materials such as:

Application objects

  • Building Facades
  • Pools
  • Fountains
  • Artificial marble walls, benches etc.
  • Walls Panels with artificial rocks
  • Stones
  • Sanitary ware like bathtubs, showers, washbasins
  • Restoration of old buildings
  • Signs for buildings & shops

The materials used for all these structures are numerous and depending on the engineering requirements, strength and compatibility with traditional building materials, the construction companies selected the appropriate materials for each project.

The use of Composite Materials in Interior Architecture and decoration is relatively a new trend, but with great potential and development capability. It is part of the building sector but other perspective since the aim here is to make use of even more “green” (eco-friendly) materials since the constructions will be an integral part of peoples everyday lives for example home constructions, offices or workplaces or even entertainment venues.

Application objects

  • Columns
  • Ceiling light
  • Furniture such as desks, benches etc.
  • Large structures such as seats in public spaces eg museums etc.
  • Restoration of buildings
  • Theatrical scenery
  • Theme rooms /Escape rooms
  • Special Decorations for shops
  • Even major theme parks, etc.

In these structures the materials used are similar with the materials for Building Industry.

Using composite materials in this field in recent years has spread rapidly and a great improvement of the final product in terms of durability and performance has been achieved over time. Composites are widely used in sports equipment:

Application objects

  • Surf boards
  • Canoe/ Kayaks
  • Ski/ Snowboard
  • Tennis rackets
  • Golf sticks
  • Fishing rods
  • Musical instruments such as violins, guitars etc.

As a result the end-users of the above equipment achieve now better performance in sports and at the same time the retail prices of the above equipment have become more affordable because their production is more industrialized and faster than in the past with the traditional handmade way and with materials like wood which required long processing

Globally there is a great effort going on to turn more and more to renewable natural resources without negative effects on the planet. Wind energy and solar energy are the best known forms of alternative energy sources, although rates globally are still low. The spread of these green energy production methods is strongly assisted by composite materials, which offer mass construction possibilities:

Application objects

  • Wind blades for wind generators
  • Solar collectors (Solar panels)
  • Sophisticated Heaters
  • Construction of power waves / tides etc.
  • Gas Pipes

A big advantage of composites structures is that any potential damage caused to them due to extreme weather conditions can be repaired, as this often happens on the blades of wind turbines

The composite materials are used in a variety of industrial applications and in industrial equipment, having replaced traditional materials such as wood and metal, improving the quality of the equipment and its life over time, but at the same time made it possible to manufacture various products previously considered unobtainable. The application examples are many:

Application objects

  • Construction of medical equipment
  • Production of agricultural machinery/vehicles etc
  • Special Industrial Lighting
  • Insulation of electrical boards
  • Applications in harsh and corrosive environments eg: Special Chemical Waste Tanks and Chemicals Processing

In these applications, however, great care is required in selecting appropriate products during manufacture as many times the conditions are likely to undergo extremes. Therefore a detailed review of the parameters is necessary in order to select suitable materials such as

The Use of Composite Materials in Arts although may seem unorthodox, it is actually quite common and is constantly expanding as new & innovative products are released. Besides the fact that artists are naturally creative minds, they can mix and match different materials to create harmonious art sets.

Application objects

  • Alabaster Statues
  • Sculptures
  • Three-dimensional paintings
  • Decorative items
  • Copies of museum exhibits
  • Folk Art & souvenirs
  • SFX Special effects in movies
  • Visual useful structures (Visual Furniture)
  • Handmade Jewelry etc.

Silicone molds

  • Production of candles
  • Soap Production
  • Chocolates
  • Sugar styling for pastry
  • Life casting, Body casting
  • Gypsum decorations
  • Concrete decorations
  • Metal castings
